We Are Bankrupt Without Love

No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love. 1st Corinthians 3:4 The Message

We need to set a good example for our children to follow

I get to speak with a lot of women. I also speak with women who are “married single.” They are living in a household with their spouse, but have no intimacy or communication with them.

My son’s father is a wonderful man. We were together for thirteen years and although we had our challenges before we got divorced, he is an awesome father and a good friend. I didn’t always feel that way, but as we know, feelings are the most unstable things in the universe and subject to change. It is so important to look at ourselves and the part we play in every relationship and always remember it takes two people to make a decision to build up or tear down a marriage. We are good friends now because (on purpose) we stopped pointing the finger at each other and (on purpose) we give more love, understanding and compassion to each other.
As a mother, we are often the first person to connect our children to God. I remember when I was growing up, my mommy would make my brother and I sit down and spend at least a half an hour a day reading our Bible and then talk about what we read. She made us go to church every Sunday. She made us drop our envelope of money in the basket. She made us do our chores and rewarded us for doing them. For years we watched her get down on her knees every night before she went to bed in front of an “altar” she made. Sometimes we would giggle from upstairs watching and listening to her pray. I didn’t know what she was doing then, but as a mother, now I understand she was praying for our future and protection. She would pray for a long time too until she was in her eighties and could no longer get down on her knees. More than anything else, I remember how she treated people. I remember how generous and loving she was. We always had people over our house. The entire neighborhood would come over sometimes and “Momma Ivy” (as they called her) would cook for everyone. She never complained and never said a bad word about anyone. She is in Heaven now and I really miss her.
That is the kind of example I want to set for my son. I want him to see me loving others (especially his father) and going out of my way, not only for him, but for everyone I meet. I want him to remember seeing his mother always smiling and laughing and being thankful for everything.
Momma Ivy adopted my brother and I when we were babies. I remember when I got the privilege to take care of her before she died. She was in a wheelchair. I made the decision to keep her in my home for the last three and a half years of her life on earth. One day I brought her a glass of water. She said thank you like I had just given her a million bucks! That’s the kind of person she was. I saw Jesus in her every single day of my life, even when I was a rebellious teenager and didn’t recognize it. Jesus is who I want my children to see in me.
At her funeral, I got to sing and talk about her. I also had the privilege of leading a standing room only crowd of her family and friends in the sinner’s prayer. I made a flyer for everyone to take home with them with Mommy’s favorite white Lily flower stapled to the corner of it. I used the scriptures 1st Corinthians 13:4-8 from the Message Bible and replaced the word "Love" with "Ivy" because that is who she was to everyone she met.

Meditate on: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Prayer for Today: Father God, please help me to connect my children to you. Let me be the Jesus they see every day.
Confession for Today: I will do what Jesus did by loving the ones that are in my life.

Don’t sweat the small stuff!

Are you easily aggravated? Do little things bother you? Today in my quiet time with God, I read this scripture in the Amplified Bible and I hope it ministers to you as much as it did for me.

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] John 14:27

How did God know I would throw a tantrum yesterday because the phone company kept me on the line for an hour and a half without resolving my problem? Did He know the power cord to my brand new laptop would suddenly stop working so I couldn’t even power up and get my work done? I wonder if He knew my child would start tugging on my shirt and crying in the background because I didn’t let him play on the computer while I was talking to a friend about how important it is to walk in love? You bet He did. That is why He sent not only the comforter, who is the Holy Spirit; He left us his Word (The Bible) to give us the answer to every problem we would ever face.
There won’t be an absence of problems in our lives, but if we receive the peace of God that surpasses our own human understanding, we will walk through every storm with victory.

A few years ago, I was going through a divorce while I was taking care of my 88-year-old mom who was in a wheelchair. I was also four months pregnant, working two jobs, borrowing a friend’s car and just got an eviction notice with only a few dollars left in the bank. At the time, I thought for sure there was no way out of that mess, but God had a greater plan. Now, a few years later, I am a homeowner, my son goes to a private 6k a year school for kindergarten, I work a job I absolutely love, I am writing books and songs and I have more peace than ever. Now if God can do that for me, for sure He can help you with whatever you are dealing with. Remember, no matter what you go through, keep dreaming your biggest dreams. Laugh out loud, and smile when you feel like crying, because it’s never as bad as it first seems!

Who Is On Your Mind This Morning?”

1 Peter 5:7 AMP
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.

Have you ever noticed early in the morning your mind gets bombarded with thoughts of fear, failure, worry and defeat? That’s because satan wants to get control of your thoughts bright and early. I have to consciously make a decision to cast my cares on the Lord by saying "I cast my cares on the Lord" out loud before my feet even touch the floor when I get out of bed in the morning.

God showed me two things to do that will help cast my cares upon him. (Psalm 55:22, 1st Peter 5:7). First He told me to play the “thank-you” game with my son as soon as we get up. We start the day by telling each other five things that we are thankful for. When you can look around and be thankful for things, especially when you are dealing with major challenges, you will overcome them. It’s hard to keep a thankful, happy person down.
The second thing God told me to do is this: think of someone who I can bless today and then do it! What I sow into the lives of others, God brings back to me. What a great feeling to get myself off my mind and do something for someone else. My challenges get taken care of every single time!

Today I will be thankful and help someone else achieve his or her dreams.

Meditate on: Ephesians 6:7-8, Col. 3:22-24,

Confession For Today: I don’t complain about things that are out of my control. I cast my cares on God because He cares for me. I know what I make happen for others, God will make happen for me.

Prayer For Today: Heavenly Father, Help me to cast my cares on you today and keep them there. I will not try to fix everything today. Give me an assignment to bless someone today and I will follow through with it. Help me to teach everyone around me that the joy of the Lord is truly my strength and to find at least five things to be thankful for today. I trust you Lord and I love you. I know that you love me too. Thank you for all that you are doing, even the things that I don’t see. In Jesus name Amen.

Take Action: Get out of your box and bless someone RIGHT NOW!

Slow Down And Listen To The Birds Sing!

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father.

I was rushing through the house this morning trying to get my son to “hurry up” so we could get to school on time. He was taking his time, just enjoying the day. Meanwhile, I was getting frustrated and aggravated that he was taking his time. I told him to get into the truck and he stopped to listen to the birds sing! So I got in the truck and beeped the horn, which startled him and put him in a bad mood. (I had just interrupted his carefree day!) Then when we pulled around the corner, I politely stopped to let a lady pull out in front of us and she just stood still. So I said, “Come on lady, make a decision!” From the back seat, my six year old son piped in, “Mommy, she’s waiting for an invitation.” Obviously he had been listening to me every day!
So often we want everyone around us to be just like us and do things just like we do them in the time frame that we are doing it. If we are busy, we want everyone else to be busy. If we are cleaning, we want our spouse to clean too. When we think no one is being sensitive to our needs, we “blow-up!”
God showed me His grace is sufficient for me today. He also reminded me to pray for understanding and compassion towards the people in my life and that He would enlighten the eyes of my understanding so I would have the grace to be compassionate toward their personality instead of becoming impatient and angry with them.
Instead of beeping the horn, I could have just as easily said to my son in a sweet, calm voice, “Honey, its Thursday. We can make time on Saturday to listen to the birds sing.” Then I could have smiled at the lady in traffic and waved my hand to let her know I was waiting for her to pull in front of us instead of expecting her to automatically understand what I was doing. So I asked for forgiveness and we prayed.
God’s grace will always give us understanding and compassion regarding what other people are dealing with and most of all remind us that nothing we are facing is ever as bad as it first seems.

Meditate on: 2 Corinthians 12:9, Colossians 1:9-12

Prayer For Today:
Father God, show me everything You want me to do today and that I may have all the wisdom and understanding that Your Spirit gives in Jesus name Amen.

Confession For Today: I will live a life that honors the Lord, and I will always please Him by doing good deeds. I will come to know Him even better.

Take Action: Slow down and don’t miss the birds God sent to sing to you!

Are You Worried About Your Future?

Is man or God your source of income?

And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 AMP.

I remember a sudden thought of fear when the first set of bills (that my ex-husband usually took care of) came in. At the time I was 5 months pregnant, working two jobs, caring for my 88-year-old mother and living in a small apartment that I had to move out from as soon as possible. My boss’ wife generously let me borrow her car because the one I owned needed a new engine. With less than $5,000 in the bank, I had no idea how I would make ends meet, not to mention where I would live or what I would drive. One day while driving around the neighborhood looking for a place to rent and out of the blue I said, “I will not pay $1200 per month to rent someone’s remodeled garage!”

I read in the Bible that morning, 2 Timothy 1:7, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. So if God hadn’t given me a spirit of fear, it must have come from Satan and I new I didn’t want it. So I stood on God’s Word and confessed it out of my mouth even though it looked like nothing was happening.

One very important thing I learned was to keep tithing. (Tithing is giving the first 10 percent of the gross of your income to a ministry that is feeding your faith and saving souls.) I didn’t know it at the time but those consistent financial seeds were my protection and provision money for my future.
Now a few short years later, as I continue to honor God by obeying His Word to tithe, He keeps opening the windows of Heaven and pouring me out blessings every day.

Remember, God has a million ways to get a million dollars into your hands- you only need one! By the way, not long after that, I purchased a beautiful home that doubled in value in a few short years later!

Meditate on: Proverbs 8:10, Malachi 3:10-12, Phillipians 4:19, 1 Timothy 6:17-18

Confession For Today: I will not have fear about my future or the future of my children because God promises in His Word to take care of us. I will give of my time, talent and money because God is my source, not man. I will have more than enough to meet my needs because God is my provider. I will not buy things I don’t need. I will stay out of debt. I will stop speaking about my problems and speak to my problems with God’s Word. God loves me and He promises in His Word to take care of me and I believe Him.

Prayer For Today: Heavenly Father, please help me to walk by faith and not by sight today. Give me ideas and witty inventions to bring in several streams of income even when I sleep. When the blessings pour in, remind me to tell everyone about your goodness.
In Jesus name Amen.

Take Action: Consistently tithe and give offerings to God starting NOW.

Many Blessings to you in 2009!

Have You Ever Had A Day When You Just Felt Like SCREAMING?!

Disciples so often get into trouble;
still, GOD is there every time.
Psalm 34:19 (The Message)

I have always loved writing since I was a child. My fourth grade teacher told me he wanted to take me to New York City to help me become a writer. I am not sure why he said that, or if that was exactly what he had in mind, but I have been writing my first book for over a year now. It's a devotional. I am posting this blog today to encourage everyone reading it that no matter how challenging life gets, God will always provide a way out.
Although I have occasional problems, I don’t let those problems have me. Take this as the assurance and encouragement you need that no matter what you are facing today, God’s wisdom will give you the answer and the way out. How do I know? Because that is exactly what He has done for me for as long as I can remember. My mother died when I was nine- months-old and God has always provided for me. He never let me down. Now that I am a mother, I promised God I would tell everyone, how good He really is. Here is an excerpt from my first (real) book. I pray you enjoy it.

I’m going to be real now. This was my morning. I yelled at my six-year-old son for his constant whining and complaining for having to get up and go to school. We have a daily routine where he makes his bed, gets dressed, brushes his teeth, washes his face, combs his hair, brings his Bible to the breakfast table and then we fellowship, eat breakfast and read together before he goes to school. We have been doing this for over four years now and some days it’s a major ordeal for him to do it willingly with a good attitude. So this morning I “blew it” and yelled at him and then I started crying. Then he started crying. So we both asked each other for forgiveness and prayed and everything was better. Mind you, I've had a cold for a few days and have been staying up working on the computer until two in the morning marketing an internet business that a Christian friend recommended. She made $2800 in one week. I should have used wisdom because as of the date of this writing, four days into the business I’ve only made $80 spending four exhausting nights on the computer after working all day.
Sorry, back to today. Then I jumped into my truck to drop off my son at school, and gas was pouring out of the bottom of my engine all the way there and all the way back. Then when I opened the door, the handle broke! All within the first two and a half hours of my day!
You have to understand, in life there won’t be an absence of problems, however God will give you the wisdom you need to overcome those problems if you ask Him to.
So this is what I did. I laughed instead of screaming. Instead of meditating on what was going wrong, I got out my Bible and prayed. Then I was led to read Proverbs 8. I started to remind myself and the devil (out loud) that God has always been faithful to me. I rehearsed my testimonies like David in the Bible did. Now and I KNOW God will see me through. You too will get to that point of peace if you stay in the Word and surround yourself with people who know God, and not know of God.
By the way, I am going to be getting a new vehicle very soon-- praise God!

Meditate on: Psalm 34:19, Proverbs 8: 1-36, Philippians 4:19.

Prayer For Today: Lord, help me not to be afraid when challenges come. Please give me the wisdom I need to over come them. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Confession For Today: Father I thank you that you always hear my prayers and even now you are taking care of all my needs.

Many Blessings to you in 2009!
